On September 4, a high-level dialogue on “Building Sustainable Business and Brands,” co-hosted by UNCTAD, the UN Forum on Sustainability Standards (UNFSS), the China Association for Standardization, and its Sustainable Business and Brand Committee, was held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. LONGi was the only solar PV company invited to attend, where it shared insights on industry sustainability practices and signed the “Sustainable Brand Vision” initiative.

With the global carbon neutrality agenda advancing, solar energy is becoming a key driver of energy transition. Widely available and inclusive, it plays a crucial role in supporting energy access in regions facing shortages and in developing countries.

During the roundtable, LONGi representatives noted that solar has already become the cheapest energy source in places such as Afghanistan and Pakistan, highlighting its role in energy equity. The rapid decline in solar power costs is driven by continuous technological progress, making it the most economical source of electricity in many countries worldwide.

At the “Sustainable Brand Creation” international seminar on September 3, LONGi’s global branding head emphasized that solar energy inherently aligns with ESG principles, driving low-carbon energy transition while expanding innovative applications.

Examples of projects include combining power generation with land restoration in China’s Kubuqi Desert, supporting indigenous communities in Brazil’s Amazon, and providing clean energy for UNHCR logistics operations in Uzbekistan.

In April, LONGi’s Jiaxing plant became the first PV facility worldwide to achieve both “Lighthouse Factory” and “Zero-Carbon” certifications, adopting on-site solar, green electricity procurement, and carbon credits to reduce emissions.

As a key outcome of the dialogue, the “Sustainable Brand Vision” initiative was released, with Chinese enterprises including LONGi participating in the signing. The initiative was presented to UNCTAD by representatives from China.

Witnesses included UNCTAD Deputy Secretary-General Pedro Manuel Moreno, China’s Ambassador Chen Xu, WTO Deputy Director-General Zhang Xiangchen, and other officials.

The initiative calls on enterprises to integrate sustainability into corporate strategy, governance, technology innovation, and brand development, promoting sustainable production and consumption across the value chain while fostering international cooperation and best practices to advance a global sustainable business ecosystem.
