Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for 5.2GW Solar-Storage Integrated Renewable Energy Project in Abu Dhabi
On October 25, 2025, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, for a large-scale renewable energy project. The project features an integrated solar and energy storage system designed to provide all-day power supply. It is jointly developed by Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) and the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), with participation from PowerChina as one of the construction partners.
The project includes a 5.2-gigawatt (GW) solar power plant and a 19-gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery energy storage system, making it one of the largest integrated clean energy projects of its kind in the world. It is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in 2027.
Once operational, the project will play an important role in stabilizing the UAE’s power grid, providing continuous, renewable, and clean electricity for regional industrial and urban development, while supporting the foundation for future digital and intelligent energy management.
PowerChina stated that it will continue to contribute to the development of international clean energy infrastructure, promoting the integration and sustainable application of photovoltaic and energy storage technologies worldwide.
